We travelled from Phuket to Koh Samui by car! We had both decided we had had enough of planes for a little while and wanted to do something different.
So we picked up our little Toyota Yaris in Phuket and drove first to Krabi! I say we… Scott drove- he said the drive was actually OK. It was only 100 miles which isn’t a lot but they only have a couple of roads so it was pretty boring doing the whole drive on the same road. Obviously I brightened it up by blasting my Cheesy Pop Hits playlist and soon we were singing our hearts out to S Club.
We got to our hostel which was right in Krabi town centre. We had a mooch around but other than ANOTHER market selling the same stuff we weren’t particularly enthralled.. We made a plan for the next day that we would visit the Emerald Pool and hot springs.
We woke up fairly early and jumped in the car. It was absolutely hammering it down. First stop was Tescos for some breakfast. YUP! TESCOS! I have never been so excited to see a supermarket in all my life. We stood in one aisle looking at Heinz baked beans for around 15mins debating whether we could really justify spending £2.50 on one tin of beans. Quite obviously we couldn’t so we sadly left them behind. Breakfast bought, we started our journey to the emerald pool. It was still pouring down but we had nothing else to do so thought we would go for it anyway.
Approx 1.5 hours later we arrived at the emerald pool entrance. (Cheesy Pop hits played the whole way!) As it was still pouring down we decided we would walk in our swim wear as we were going to get wet in the pool anyway!
A trek through the jungle later and we arrived at the emerald pool. Due to the weather we were almost the only ones there. It was really weird being in the middle of the jungle in this lovely pool!
After that we jumped back into the car and drove to the hot springs.. Well it was advertised as “hot springs” basically just a large man made pool with scalding hot water. It was nice for a minute but after a while it seemed a bit of a waste considering we thought we were going to a natural spring!
We stayed another night in then the next day we drove from Krabi to Surathani which is where the ferry port is for Koh Samui. On the way we stopped at Khao Sok national park. We hiked about 1 hour in the jungle to see a waterfall. On the way we saw monkeys! Just sat right in the middle of the dirt track. It was pretty cool! The waterfall however was pretty pants. If we had more time we could have gone further up to see a better one.
The next day we got on the ferry to Koh Samui. (My most favourite place in Thailand.) Next blog coming soon!
